Circa 1878

Charles R. Parsons’ Bird’s-Eye View of San Francisco

Reproduced by Anchor Brewing Company from a rare original 1878 Currier & Ives chromolithograph, courtesy of the Library of Congress. It represented the prints to be sold at Bernard McQuillan’s “Depot for Currier & Ives’ Pictures” in San Francisco’s Grand Hotel. On Pacific Street, one block from Larkin Street Presbyterian Church, was a little brewery that would one day become known as Anchor. The entire neighborhood burned in 1906.
