Anchor Brewing Company Announces the Opening of Anchor Public Taps – A New Pilot Brewery and Bar in San Francisco’s Potrero Hill
October 10, 2017
Anchor Brewing Company announces the opening of Anchor Public Taps on Saturday, October 21st at 11:00 am to 9:00 pm. Public Taps is Anchor’s new pilot brewery and bar located at 495 DeHaro Street across from Anchor’s iconic brewery and taproom in Potrero Hill. Featuring both classic and new beers, Public Taps is a gathering place for San Franciscans and for the many visitors seeking a one-of-a-kind San Francisco experience.
“Anchor’s original incarnation was a beer-and-billiards saloon near Russian Hill in the late 1800s that evolved into a commercial brewery,” said Matt Davenport, Anchor Brewing President. “In more recent years, a visit to Anchor has required a tour reservation or invite to a private event. For the first time since Prohibition, we’re excited to roll up our door and once again open a brewery bar. We look forward to sharing our Anchor story, classic beers and innovations with you.”
Public Taps offers an innovative yet traditional space where San Franciscans can enjoy Anchor brews. It will also be home to The Potrero Project—a collection of beers exclusively brewed in Anchor’s pilot brewery for Public Taps guests. Public Taps will have some of the best local food trucks scheduled daily, as well as a calendar of special events, making it a place for celebrating the unique San Francisco community.
“There is no city in the world like San Francisco and nothing makes a day in this magical city better than sharing San Francisco’s original beer with friends,” said Anchor Brewmaster Scott Ungermann. “Anchor Steam® Beer started as a quirky little innovation that utilized our foggy climate to cool the beer on rooftops. Today, our family of brewers embodies that original spirit as we invite you to take a peek behind the curtain and see innovation at work.”
Anchor brewers are steadfast in their brewing traditions, but they are also experimenters and scientists. At Public Taps, Anchor will showcase its unique brewing philosophy and bring a little bit of San Francisco to a whole lot of beer.
The design of Public Taps reflects Anchor’s ethos of maintaining tradition while being radically inventive—from the reclaimed redwood of the water storage tanks, to copper from Anchor’s old brewhouse, to brewing equipment and beer collections from Anchor’s robust archives. A collaboration between Anchor’s staff and its partners who are experts in their fields, the design celebrates local craftsmanship and originality.
Public Taps is open daily from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm. It is family friendly and dog friendly on the patio. Learn more about Anchor Public Taps at www.anchorpublictaps.com
